New visual identity presented

The new visual identity for the 65th edition of Pula Film Festival was presented today at a press conference at Valli Cinema small hall. Festival director Gordana Restović and author of the new visual identity Duje Jurić spoke to the public, as well as deputy mayor of Pula, Elena Puh Belci.

The deputy mayor greeted the public on behalf of mayor Boris Miletić and on her own behalf. “When speaking about the Festival, we can only say it surprises us with a new look every year. The festival of film is an inevitable cultural event for Pula, and it attracts more people every year. I would like to congratulate the author of the new visual identity and I wish this year’s Festival a lot of success,” Puh Belci added.

Festival director Gordana Restović said in her introduction that 18 proposals have been received in line with the public tender, and that in cooperation with the commission (director of Museum of Contemporary Art of Istria Ketrin Miličević Mijošek, headmaster of School of Applied Arts and Design Davor Kliman, president of the Governing Council of Pula Film Festival Public Institution Jasna Jaklin Majetić, Pula Film Festival spokesperson Sanela Pliško), an unanimous decision was made to accept the proposal with an elaborate story that highlights this year’s jubilee edition of the festival and that is well-thought-out, associative, and highly fitting. The Festival director also announced that tenders for the Festival’s visual identity will be published annually, for each edition of the Festival, providing an opportunity for the authors to leave their mark on the rich history of the Festival’s visual identities.

Duje Jurić, the author of the visual identity, explained that the starting point of his idea were the recognisable features of the Festival - the stars, to which he then added an element of movement. During film screenings at the Arena, the stars in the sky leave a unique, yet unnoticeable trace, which turns into the number 65 through an imagined exposition and creates the distinct effect of simulating the dynamics of heavenly bodies and evoking the identically shaped seating area at the Arena. As a result, the visual identity is a fingerprint of sorts of the 65th Pula Film Festival, gradually developing into the full trace the stars in the sky leave in a day, and forming a full circle, with Pula Film Festival in the centre.

The Festival director also informed the public that this year’s Pula Film Festival will run for nine days, from 14 to 22 July, including a screening at the Arena on Sunday 22 July, which the youngest audience will surely be most thrilled about. The director also proudly highlighted that cooperation with the longtime sponsor Hrvatski telekom has been confirmed to continue this year as well.
