Pula Film Festival Presents Jury in Main Competition Programme
Last year’s winner of the Grand Golden Arena, Mirta Puhlovski, actor and director Nina Violić and actor Goran Marković – also winners of Golden Arenas, editor Nina Velnić, and winner of the Palm d’Or, Nebojša Slijepčević, are the jury members of the 71 Pula Film Fetival, which will be held from 11 to 18 July 2024.
The five-member jury will decide on the winners of 20 Golden Arenas. There are 22 films in competition in the Main Programme, of which 11 in the Croatian Film section, and 11 in the Croatian Minority Co-productions section.
Two last year’s winners of Golden Arenas are deciding on the winners this year – Mirta Puhlovski and Goran Marković. Puhlovski and co-writer and director Vedrana Pribačić were presented the award for the film Bigger Than Trauma, the first documentary to ever win the Grand Golden Arena for Best Film at Pula Film Festival.
Marković was brilliant as the male lead in the film Safe Place, and won the Golden Arena for Best Actor, and is also known for his roles in the awarded films The High Sun, Aleksi, and Tereza37.
Nina Violić is a celebrated actress who has won a number of awards for her roles, including the Golden Arena for her role in the film Cashier Wants to Go to the Seaside. Her directorial debut Kick and Scream was screened at Pula Film Festival two years ago and Violić received the Breza Award for Best Debutant.
Nina Velnić is an awarded film editor who has worked on many TV, documentary, feature films, and series, including Mjenjačnica, Rest in Peace, One of Us, and Betonski spavači.
Nebojša Slijepčević is currently the most prominent Croatian director: he has recently won the Palme d’Or for his short film The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent, and is also known for his excellent documentary films Gangster Love and Srbenka.
Croatian films are competing for 16 awards, and the films in competition are: Bosnian Pot (directed by Pavo Marinković), The Wrath of God (directed by Kristijan Milić), Frka (directed by Svebor Mihael Jelić), Our Children (directed by Silvestar Kolbas), Celebration (directed by Bruno Anković), Sweet Simona (directed by Igor Mirković), It All Ends Here (directed by Rajko Grlić), The Holy Family (directed by Vlatka Vorkapić), Summer Teeth (directed by Dražen Žarković), This Is Not a Love Song (directed by Nevio Marasović), and The Woman With the Rubber Gloves (directed by Mario Šulina).
Croatian minority co-productions are competing for four awards, and the films in competition are: Housekeeping for Beginners (directed by Goran Stolevski), Excursion (directed by Una Gunjak), KIX (directed by Bálint Révész and Dávid Mikulán), Lost Country (directed by Vladimir Perišić), M (directed by Vardan Tozija), Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World (directed by Radu Jude), Shooting Blanks (directed by Žiga Virc), Working Class Goes to Hell (directed by Mladen Đorđević), Sirin (directed by Senad Šahmanović), Sweet Sorrow (directed by Kosta Đorđević), and Forever Hold Your Peace (directed by Ivan Marinović). Awards presented in this section are the Golden Arena for Best Croatian Minority Co-production and up to three Golden Arenas to other categories.
