Synopsis

Elsa is an advertising director whose mother dies during a long December holiday. She works non-stop and, without realising, doesn’t give herself time to mourn her mother’s absence. After a crisis, Elsa decides to travel to the island of Lanzarote accompanied by her friend Patricia. The stories of these characters run parallel to that of a screenwriter and film director, exploring the fragile and often painful boundary between life and fiction..

About the director

Pedro Almodóvar (Calzada de Calatrava, 1949) is a prominent Spanish filmmaker known for his groundbreaking contributions to cinema. Self-taught during the restrictive Franco regime, he emerged as a leading figure of the Madrilenian cultural movement. His unique storytelling blends humor, melodrama, and provocative themes, earning him critical acclaim and multiple Academy Awards for iconic films like Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988), All About My Mother (1999), and Talk to Her (2002). Almodóvar’s vital status in the industry remains solid well into the 2010s and 2020s with works such as Pain and Glory (2019) and Parallel Mothers (2021), leading up to his first English-language feature, The Room Next Door (2024).
