Synopsis

The film follows the relationship between Nobel Prize-winning writer Thomas Mann and his daughter Erika, an actress and writer. In the summer of 1949, father and daughter travel through war-ravaged Germany — from American-controlled Frankfurt to Soviet-controlled Weimar — confronting a divided homeland and deep tensions within their own family after sixteen years of exile in the United States.

About the director

Paweł Pawlikowski (Warsaw, 1957) is a Polish-born British film director and screenwriter. After documentaries, his focus shifted to feature films, the first of which were Last Resort (2000) and My Summer of Love (2004). Both films won BAFTA awards.
