Synopsis

In 19th-century Montenegro, the dying poet-ruler Morlak travels to Italy seeking a cure while his loyal servant Djuko wrestles with jealousy, homesickness, and the looming shadow of loss.

About the director

Ivan Salatić (Dubrovnik, 1982) is a Montenegrin director and screenwriter. He graduated from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Cetinje and earned his master’s degree at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg. He directed, wrote and produced the short films We Are the Sons of Your Rocks (2018), Backyards (2015), Shelters (2014), Heavens (2014), and Intro (2013). His short films won awards and were screened at prestigious international festivals, such as Venice, Torino, Sarajevo, CPH:DOX, Belfort, and many others. His first feature film You Have the Night (2018) had its premiere at the Venice Film Festival and went on to win awards for Best Film at the Hong Kong Film Festival and the Belgrade Auteur Film Festival, as well as the award for Best Director and the Herceg-Novi Film Festival – Montenegro Film Festival.
