Synopsis
Rio, a quiet young man from a village in central Istria, makes a living working in a hotel resort on the coast, committing occasional petty thefts. He clashes with his grandmother on how to best take care of his grandfather, who suffers from dementia. One evening, Andrea, a seasonal beauty salon worker in the same resort, notices Rio stealing and suggests joining forces to steal from her wealthy customers.

About the director
Mate Ugrin (Pula, 1986) is a Croatian film director and screenwriter. He graduated in film directing from the Academy of Arts in Belgrade and continued his studies at HFBK Hamburg and the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin). He is the author of the acclaimed short films Recent Places (2016), Meanwhile (2017) and Everything Ahead (2021), which won the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Short Film. His debut feature film Petty Thieves (2026) was developed through the When East Meets West, EAVE and TorinoScriptLab programmes, where it received several industry awards, including the ArteKino Award at CineLink Sarajevo.
