Synopsis
Maria Ángeles is an independent older woman living in the Spanish quarter of Tangier. When her daughter Clara unexpectedly arrives with plans to sell the family home in order to ease the financial difficulties caused by her divorce, Maria firmly refuses to leave the house and the community to which she belongs. Determined to keep her home and recover the cherished belongings Clara has already sold off, she devises a clever plan to earn the necessary money.

About the director
Maryam Touzani (Tangier, 1980) is a Moroccan director and screenwriter. After studying journalism in London, she turned to filmmaking; her early short films When They Slept (2012) and Aya Goes to the Beach (2015) won numerous international awards. She collaborated closely with director Nabil Ayouch, co-writing and starring in his feature Razzia (2017). Her feature directorial debut, Adam (2019), premiered in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section, won over thirty awards, and was selected as Morocco’s official submission for the Academy Awards. In 2019, she became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Her second feature, The Blue Caftan (2022), won the FIPRESCI Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and was shortlisted for the Academy Awards
